2016 Canadian AeroPress Championships Competitor Information

Event Date: May 28, 2016

Competitors to arrive no later than: 9:45 AM
(Registration and warm up held between 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM)
Doors open to public: 1:00 pm
Competition start time: 2:00 pm

Location: Toolshed Brewing 801 30 St. NE, Calgary, AB T2A 5L7

Venue: There will be an unsecured storage area for you to keep your things located near the bar. There will be a beverage and food area in the back. A pre-staging area will hold contestants waiting to compete (must be present 15 mins before their round). Registration will be held near the entrance, where contestants will then proceed to the general area near the stage. Bathrooms are located on-site.

Registration: At registration you will be provided with a nametag and be required to sign in. We will also need to take a photo of you for the competitor board. Once you have registered, you may proceed to perform your warm up in the designated area.

Coffee:

As the competition draws closer, we will send out a coffee sampler kit from Transcend Coffee. You will receive TWO ¾ lb bags of their Torea Village roast. The sample coffee will be roasted and mailed the week of May 17th. The same roast of coffee will be provided the day of.

Test and prepare your brew, and write it down! You will need to provide two written copies of your recipe on the day of the event.

It is critical we have your correct address on file. We only have the address that was used to sign up for the competition - please reach out to us before May 11, 2016 with any address changes. If you are still hosting an in-house competition, please inform us of where to ship the coffee to (or else it will default to the shipping form).

Things to bring and what will be supplied:

You may substitute any of the following gear provided to you at the event, with your own type (Your brewer must of course, be an Original Aeropress):

  • Grinder: Baratza Virtuoso
  • Scale: Acaia Pearl scale
  • Kettle: Bonavita Variable Temp. Gooseneck (1.0 L)
  • Brewer: Original Aeropress
  • Spoon
  • Spring water

Please also note the following:

  • Two copies of the recipe card (filled out), one to display, and one to provide the judges for the event. Here is a sample template that you could use, but don't need to follow.
  • Coffee (warm up and competition) will be supplied to you the day of the event.
  • There will be a wash and dump station, as well as a dump bucket at each table.

Is there parking near the venue?

Yes! Plenty of parking nearby.


Are there breaks during the event?

Yes - there will be a detailed schedule the day of the event so you know when you can take a break! Make sure you come back in time for your pre-staging time, or else you may be disqualified.


Will the be food and drink available at the event?

Yes, food and beverages (including Tool Shed Brewery tastings) will be available.
